Criminal History Check Requirements
The healthcare sector is heavily stringent and regulated.
Medical Practitioners:
A person may require a Criminal History Check at the time of employment or occupation-related licencing and registration purposes. For example, the medical board in Australia has the power under section 79 and 135 of National Law to check the criminal history of medical practitioners.
Aged Care Workers:
Similarly, a Criminal History Check is compulsory under the Aged Care Act 1997 if someone wishes to Work Within the Aged Care Sector.
Nurses and Midwives:
Nurses and midwives are required to register through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) which works with the 15 National Boards to help protect the public by regulating Australia's registered health practitioners. At the time of registration, you may require the Police History Check certificate.
